About the project
Southgate Theatre is an incredible community asset in Honley. We are privileged to have this resource in the Holme Valley. However, we are acutely aware that it is difficult for people with varying physical difficulties to access it currently. We want to change this.
We have had some amazing plans drawn up which illustrate the real possibilities available.
More events to look foward to in 2026!
24-27 June 2026 – Job for the Boy – a play by Dennis Driscoll.
Job for the Boy was Honley Players’ first production in 1966. As part of our 60th Anniversary celebrations, we proudly present this new production directed by Martin Tyrrell.
8th & 9th August 2026 – Strange Twig Circus
Oct-Nov – Halloween Panto (exact dates tbc)
After the collywobble-inducing Haunted House (2023), the bewitching Spellbound (2024) and the transformative Jekyll & Hyde (2025), stand by your beds for yet another nerve-shreddingly fabulous Halloween panto written by Barry Crossley!
2nd-5th Dec 2026 – Spirit Level – a comedy by Pam Valentine.
A perfect pre-christmas comedy treat directed by Martin Tyrrell.

Southgate Theatre – A Hub of Creativity in the Honley Village Community
Honley Players is a thriving amateur dramatic group established in 1966 performing at least 4 times a year at their own theatre in Honley. There are many ways to get involved, both on and off stage, and we welcome new faces.

A unique creative space available for hire in Honley
The Southgate Theatre has a number of rooms available to hire. It’s a great venue for Private Parties, Events, Concerts, Festivals and Corporate or Charity Dinners. We also have studio space suitable for Music Rehearsals, Keep-fit classes or Clubs and Society meetings.
